Busin' About: Hosted by Jacqui Price & Judith Darling. An ad hoc group of members meeting once each term to go on a Mystery Tour. Numbers are limited by the size of the bus, consequently, if over subscribed by the application closing date, names are placed in a top hat and drawn by a passing white rabbit. Participants pay an individual fee for each tour, which includes a share in the cost of the bus, lunch and possibly afternoon tea. Each day has to be totally self-funded. Each day usually includes an educational element of some description.
The Sir Ivan Ring of Fire - Term 3 Mystery Tour - Tuesday 25th July 2017 by Nancy Chapman Jacqui came up trumps again with the July Busin' About Mystery Tour. We headed north and arrived at Dunedoo for coffee etc., and a little window shopping in the impressive main street. The most notable building was the old cinema, now full of beautiful antiques. It's always difficult to get passengers back on the bus because they enjoy each place so much. Travelling east on the Golden Highway, we traversed the area ravaged by the Sir Ivan Fire, which started on Saturday 11th February - a fire which covered tens of thousands of hectares destroying many homes, fences and livestock. Thanks to Blazeaid, there are now miles (or even kilometres) of new fences. New crops are growing and eucalypts reviving. Despite it being late July, we lunched on the north verandah of the lovely old sandstone pub, The Royal Hotel, in Cassilis (a sleepy town). Travelling back to Mudgee through the thriving coal mining area around Ulan and Moolarben, we skirted the town to the local Rural Fire Service Headquarters where were given an informative talk by Superintendent Troy Porter, the District Manager, and were treated to a scrumptious afternoon tea before being returned to our cars. Thank you U3A for another well organised, informative and socially enjoyable day.
